Whether you’re into skating, skiing, or “cottaging,” now it’s easier than ever to blend style and comfort on your next outings. From colours on the ski slopes to lumberjack chic, you’ll be up-to-the-minute on the latest trends. On your marks, get set, go!

The fashion-forward skier loves being on the top of her game with high-quality outerwear. This year, the trendiest people on the slopes are ditching patterns for solid colours. Bright and bold tones are all the rage, but avoid going all out from head to toe. Be creative and mix more vibrant colours (yellow, royal blue, electric orange) with a nice neutral (cream, pale grey, white, black). Opt for a bulkier coat and skip the baggy ski pants for a more tailored look. Onesies are also back, and Canadian companies like Löle and Rossignol are putting out some fabulous styles. Add a pair of lined leather mittens like those from Auclair and you’re sure to be the envy of your entourage! Remember, the hottest looks also have to keep you warm and protected from the sun. Go with sports sunglasses designed for skiing and a down-lined coat with a water- and wind-proof shell. Since the season is coming to an end, hit the sales to gear up for next winter.

The recipe for a hot urban look that keeps you warm is simple. All the rage on runways and in fashion shows, synthetic and recycled fur coats are the “it” item this season. Hit the vintage shops or raid your grandmother’s closet, and go for a neutral or colourful tone! Depending on the temperature, you can accessorize with rubber boots and thick socks or more urban-style winter boots, like models from Sorel and Pajar. Keep your head nice and toasty with a colourful tuque and giant knit scarf. Sunglasses are always a must in the bright winter sun—even in the city!

Whether for a day of skiing or sledding, it’s all about layers. In addition to being totally on-trend, the layered look lets you incorporate a variety of styles into your outfit. Lumberjack chic is super trendy. Unleash the “lumbersexual” inside you with a bushy beard, jeans, and checked shirt for an edgy style. For a lady lumberjack look, amp up the masculine. You can even raid your man’s shirt closet!

When it comes to winter sports, are you all about the hot chocolate? If so, comfort is the name of the game. Go for a nice cozy sweater and your favourite pair of jeans. This season, oversized sweaters are in! Top it all off with some comfy wool socks or moccasin slippers like those from Manitobah Mukluk to keep your tootsies nice and warm. If you’re in the mood for some serious cocooning, you can’t beat pajamas and slipper boots for style and warmth. Curled up in a knit blanket with a big mug of coffee in hand, you’re sure to attract jealous stares!
