In this time of coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), your safety is at the top of our priorities and your well-being, and that of our employees, is even more important to us. We would like to reassure you that we are taking the situation very seriously and that we are closely monitoring its progress. To protect your health, we are diligently applying directives of the government, the Ordre des opticiens d’ordonnances du Québec and the Ordre des optométristes du Québec to ensure that our practices are consistent with the most recent recommendations.

Also, as per their instructions, effective Monday, March 16 and for a minimum of 14 days, all appointments for routine, non-emergency services (routine eye exams, eyeglasses replacement, etc.), are being postponed to a later date, taking into consideration the declared health state of emergency.

For patients requiring urgent eye care (foreign body in the eye, conjunctivitis, etc.) or loss of glasses or contact lenses, they are encouraged to contact by phone the office of their optometrist or of their optician so that an assessment of the situation can be made and, if necessary, determine the time and location of an appointment.

Our employees follow the hygiene guidelines prescribed by government authorities.

We clean the surfaces of the consultation areas after each client. 

We clean the equipment with a disinfectant every time you use it. We place antiseptic solutions, tissues and trash cans at your disposal to limit the spread of the virus.

We limit contacts such as handshakes and hugs.

If a patient is identified as being at risk, we will ask them to leave immediately.

Before contacting us for an urgent appointment in one of our clinics, please consider to postpone your appointement if the following measures applies to you:

  • You have been diagnosed with COVID-19
  • You have symptoms such as fever, cough and/or difficulty breathing
  • You have been or are exposed to one of the following situations;

    • Return from a trip to a foreign country less than 14 days ago;
    • Laboratory exposure to biological material (for example, primary clinical samples, viral culture isolates, etc.) known to contain COVID-19.
  • You have been in close contact, within the last 14 days, with a person who meets these conditions.

Some answers to your questions:

Is my Opto-Réseau clinic open?

As of March 16, and for a minimum period of 14 days, some of our clinics will be open only for urgent eye care related to the health of your eyes (foreign body, conjunctivitis, etc.) or loss of glasses or contact lenses.

I have a scheduled appointment at an Opto-Réseau clinic. Will it be postponed?

Your clinic will contact you by phone to notify you and reschedule your appointment at a later date. You don’t have to travel; it’s all done over the phone. When the clinic reopens, they will call you to do a follow up.

 

I ordered glasses/contact lenses; can I pick up my order?

Please contact your clinic by phone. It may be possible to make an appointment for the delivery of your glasses according to the new availability hours. As for contact lenses, the clinic might be able to have them delivered to your home or workplace. However, you must call the clinic to plan this delivery or make an online request.

 

I have an eye emergency (ex: foreign body, conjunctivitis), can I go to my Opto-Réseau clinic?

Some Opto-Réseau clinics still provide urgent services. However, you must contact your clinic by phone so that your condition can be assessed before making an appointment with the clinic or referring you to another establishment in the health system.

 

For emergency visits, what hygiene measures do you take to ensure a healthy and safe environment?

To ensure the safety of our patients with an eye emergency and our employees, we comply with the hygiene recommendations issued by the Ordre des optométristes du Québec, the Ordre des opticiens d’ordonnances du Québec and we follow the government’s directives.

A poster outlining the preventive measures to respect is placed on the front door of our clinics. It recalls that anyone who is diagnosed with COVID-19, direct or indirect, have symptoms (fever, cough, breathing difficulties) or has returned from a trip to a foreign country in the last 14 days to not enter the clinic.

We also perform a second verification with each patient who presents themselves at our clinics, by asking them about the criteria listed above.

To ensure a safe visit, we regularly disinfect our clinic equipment, reception area and work tools. We also offer antibacterial gel.

As for our teams, they make sure to wash their hands or disinfect them very regularly, after any contact with a patient or other member of the team and before and after handling any equipment.

We submit our team members to the same check as patients, namely to check a possible diagnosis of COVID-19, direct or indirect, symptoms such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing or if they return from a trip to a foreign country within the last 14 days.

If one of our members met a criterion, we would take immediate action to ensure the safety of all.

 

What hygiene measures should I take upon arrival at your clinic? 

We ask that you wash your hands completely or disinfect your hands with an antibacterial gel (available to you) when you enter the clinic, after using the bathroom or after handling any objects.
