Editor’s note: On June 5, it was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Kate Brosnahan Spade, the mastermind and soul of the world-renowned eponymous brand. Kate Spade will be remembered for her one-of-a-kind pieces designed for women who love living out loud and in colour. We want to pay tribute to the fashion icon who blazed her own shining trail at a time when grunge ruled the catwalk.

With their refreshing colours, graphic prints, and sophisticated yet playful appeal, Kate Spade frames add a dash of incandescent charm to every outfit.

But before the glasses, there were bags. Kate Brosnahan Spade got her start when she took on the mission of designing the perfect handbag. She visited neighbourhood flea markets and thrift shops for inspiration. Drawing on colourful vintage fashion, she designed the “Sam” bag, a square-shaped classic that’s still all the rage today. In the late 90s, you couldn’t walk around New York, the brand’s birthplace, without spotting the famous bag dangling from a fashionista’s arm.

Nowadays, it’s easy to recognize a Kate Spade design by its feminine motifs, retro shapes, and modern visual touches. And her eyewear is no exception! When Kate Spade brought her distinctive flair to the world of eyewear, we couldn’t resist her iconic frame collection.

Whimsical additions to otherwise serious pieces have been a Kate Spade trademark since day one. Her eyewear creations are sure to elicit smiles with their lively colours, acetate inserts, and glittery browlines.

With Kate Spade, you can mix and match almost anything. The latest floral design looks just as good on eyewear as on a bag, yoga hoodie, or bedspread. We love Kate Spade’s motifs and never tire of seeing them anywhere and everywhere. If you don’t really like having motifs on your frames, but still want a little something extra, Kate Spade often conceals extravagant designs on the inside of temples for those of us who aren’t quite ready to show off our eccentric side.

In Kate Spade’s eyes, everyone deserved to look like a movie star. For sunglasses, Kate Spade’s retro frames add a little je ne sais quoi to every outfit. What’s more, they are usually oversized with a penchant for cat eye styling.

We love Kate Spade office supplies, most of which have motivational quotes that help us do our daily work. With a Kate Spade notebook, pencil, and eyewear, you’ve got everything you need to look—and feel—like an invincible young professional.

It goes without saying that Kate Brosnahan Spade made her mark on several generations of women who never felt comfortable with the conventional mainstream designs they were being offered. Her pieces weathered changing trends to establish themselves as full-fledged creations with their own set of conventions. We’re ever grateful to the fashion genius who brought so much beauty into our lives. Let’s live colourfully.
