The new year has just begun, and we would like to take this opportunity to suggest a few resolutions you can make for your eyes, to ensure healthy vision. There are a whole host of things you can do to take care of your eyes and keep them healthy. Here are just a few:
Resolution #1: Go for an annual eye exam
In the same way your body requires regular checkups, your eyes, too, should undergo routine examinations. Eye exams are an essential way to keep your eyes healthy and allow eye specialists to detect, assess, and monitor potential vision problems or conditions. Many serious vision problems have no obvious symptoms. Such symptoms may only appear later, once the problem is already at an advanced stage and is difficult, or even impossible, to treat. Some vision problems are more common among specific age groups while others can afflict people of any age. That’s why it is important to have an annual eye exam, starting from a young age.
Resolution #2: Eat foods that are good for the eyes
It’s easy to incorporate into your diet foods that can help keep your eyes healthy. Vitamins A, C, and E have long proven their worth. These vitamins are found in fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Nutrients such as omega-3s—present primarily in fish—are also excellent for reducing the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Resolution #3: Protect your eyes all the time
Your eyes are an essential tool for performing all kinds of tasks, whether at work or around the house. Workplace risks include visual fatigue and inadequate eye protection. To mitigate these risks, it is important to wear the proper glasses, be it protective eyewear or glasses for computer use.
When you’re outside, you know how important it is to slather on sunscreen to protect your skin. And it’s just as crucial to don a pair of high quality sunglasses to protect your eyes against UV rays.
In short, your eyes are essential to your performance at work and your comfort at home. Healthy, properly protected eyes and appropriate vision correction will go a long way toward helping you reach your goals for 2015.
